Everything you need to know about BPA?

What is BPA?

You may have seen it plastered everywhere, and advertised on all different products but what exactly is BPA?

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an industrial chemical that is used to make polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins. Polycarbonate plastic is a lightweight, high performance, heat and electrical resistant material that is widely taken advantage of amongst a range of different products e.g. Protective eyewear, safety equipment, food containers and medical devices. Comparably epoxy resins is a solid material that uses strong adhesive to create products that are heavily relied on every day e.g. electrical equipment, wind energy, paints and coatings.

In order to create these products BPA is sealed into the material and coating. However, eventually the BPA separates and breaks free, allowing it to make its way into your food and beverages.

The effects of BPA

Exposure to BPA is a growing concern due to the potential health effects it has on the brain and body. BPA can imitate the body’s hormones and interfere with the production, function and elimination of natural hormones. Additionally, research ( Link: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/221205) has linked BPA to fertility problems, heart disease, diabetes and other conditions.

How can I avoid BPA?
