What’s the go with Zero Waste?

July is all about education around plastic and its effect on the planet and to tie in with Plastic-Free July is the idea of Zero Waste. You may have seen it or heard about it but what does it really mean?

Zero Waste is the idea that  The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health

So in short, it’s the idea that what we use/create can be reused, restored or recycled so it doesn’t end up in landfill.

Here at Cheeki we’re all about the Zero Waste idea. Refilling and reusing to reduce waste. But one thing we want to express is that Zero Waste is a goal to work towards. It’s not a strict way of living where you eliminate every piece of waste in your life because for many that’s almost impossible.

Rather, it’s a guideline to help reduce your waste and your impact on the planet. For example, bringing your coffee cup to the café instead of using a take-away cup or bringing your own container to the restaurant for take-away dinner. It’s the small changes that make the big difference. Yes, we feel like a broken record repeating this but it’s so true!

This Plastic Free July use it as a reminder to look at your use of waste as a whole, not just plastic. What can be swapped, reused, recycled or refilled? So what is the go with Zero Waste? It’s the simple goal of just reducing some waste.
